Call me Joe.  This site is anonymous on purpose -- it means that there's nothing to buy, nothing to sell, nothing but the truth.  That's different, isn't it?  So many sites want to sell you something, even if you don't need it.  

I've been writing screenplays for the better part of twenty years.  I've  written over thirty screenplays, God knows how many treatments, drafts, synopsi and sketches and scenes and diagrams and query letters. 

For more than six years I directed a screenwriter's group that had some 250 folks on the mailing list and meetings with more than 100 in attendance.  I've directed several short films, won a screenplay contest, had a "big-time" agent, flew into Hollywood for meetings, did video production for three years and have somehow emerged from all that as a successful publisher.  Go figure. 

Does any of that matter?  No.  Goldman said that in this business, "Nobody knows anything."  Sure, everyone agrees with that.  The hard part is applying it to yourself.

Screenwriting

So what the heck were all those scripts about and what happened to them?  I'll tell you, and even tell you what I did wrong.  Maybe you won't make the same mistakes. 

Why am I doing this site, exposing myself to ridicule with no hope of reward?  Yeow, that's a good question.  
      
Maybe because after many years of playing the game, writing scripts, querying everyone with a mailing address, performing pitches, rewriting until my synapses failed, after years of hoping that the next time the phone rings it will be a producer, my agent, the friend of the second-cousin who promised to read my latest script or anyone with the clout to make a movie, I am taking a break.  Maybe a little break, maybe a long break.  

So witness my online calling card, my pitch to the world, my mea culpa, my, "See-ya!" and yes, my promise to someday charge once more into the fray, all of it liberally mixed with a whole lot of stuff I've learned along the way.

Baldness

Screenwriting in Hollywood is not for sissies.  Being among the follicly challenged only makes it worse since age discrimination starts as soon as you look old enough to buy beer.  Here's how I dealt with making it in Hollywood while looking older and older and older every damn time I got off the plane.  Wait, did I actually say, "Making it?"  Ha, haaaa.  No, I did not "Make it."  But now, after all this time, I think I know why.  Stick around, it's a revelation you can share.
